Good afternoon class. Currently testing Google Talk through Gaim on my Gentoo Linux and it works perfectly. Haven’t download the Windows version of Google Talk so I can’t comment much.
Since no one is on my buddy list yet, feel free to add me into your list if you are trying google new approach toward communication. Take note, like most of other Google product it’s still on BETA. Google Talk uses voice over internet protocol (VoIP) to turn your computer into a phone. Once you have downloaded and installed the free Google Talk programme you can plug in a specially adapted phone and make calls through your computer. If you call another Google Talk user the phone call is free.
The instruction and installation for Windows user is easy and straightforward, either to use its own Google Talk client or other supported third party IM Client according to their charts. They also provide step-by-step guide to for each client listed.
Few screenshot of Gaim Google Talk in action have been uploaded on my flickr. There’s also others on flickr that uses Google Talk on different OS and clients.
But the real questions, are you willing to give up your Yahoo! or MSN that provide the same service? Or use chat client that support multiple IM protocol?
ADDED
I’ve tried the actual Google Talk client on Windows XP and it was awesome. It was lite and white. Furthermore, like Yahoo! and MSN it is integrated with your gmail account. In some way, the client main and chat window sometimes fail to minimize. In the other hand, I’d try to install Google Talk client on my gentoo using wine. The installation runs smoothly but after it’s done, nothing happen or maybe it fail to launch. What a silly attempt.
