Blocking Maxis ECP (short code 36767)

For the past few month, I noticed that my Maxis Hotlink prepaid credit mysteriously disappeared. I even got few SMS that I cannot deny receiving and much worst my credit got deducted. So I send them (Maxis Customer Service CUSTOMERCARE@maxis.com.my) an email requesting to block this senders. And then few days later, I got their reply:

Dear Encik Safirul,

Thank you for your feedback.

The related promotional messages sent to customer’s mobile phone were
delivered from External Content Service Provider (short code 36767). We
act as a billing platform for External Content Service Provider’s
services and we do not block any incoming messages or call sent to
customer’s mobile phone. The received promotional messages are normally
originated from ECSP clientele’s database.

However, upon our customer’s feedback, we will assist to include the
customer’s mobile number for not receiving and sending any messages from
and to the related short code/s. We have barred your mobile number from
receiving any short message service (SMS) or sending the short message
service (SMS) from and to 36767, the External Service Content Provider
(ESCS).

You may also write STOP to the respective short code to stop the
service.

We hope the above clarifies our customer’s query. If you wish to enquire
further on this matter, please do not hesitate to call us at 03
74922123.

Thank you and we look forward to your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
Azizah Ahmad

Basically, this is my final resort and I don’t care the consequences blocking the service. I wonder if any of you got the same problem like me.

Yeah you should. I think better change to Postpaid, lot’s of benefit.

About the image resize, I think there’s a plugin called iMax Width which requires PHP5.

Kau penah send sms ke 36767 ke? Normally they ask you to send ON to the short code number and then from time to time they will send SMS and charge you for that.

Actually they should have an instruction to stop the subscription. If they don’t provide it, its against the MCMC rules and you can report them.

  4. hmmm normally all the dumb fucking 5 number services compnay should be barred from operating at all, nuisance …

one important note is that, it obeys the “STOP” command, but this is normally after minus’sing a few bucks from ur credit already … just reply “STOP” will be sufficient …

even those free adverts or promo sms … but this is if its from those 5 numbers services la, the ones from Maxis themselves are nuisance too … these u cannot reply … as it will have an invalid number …

  5. I used Maxis postpaid for 3 lines, and every month I noticed I got charged for almost RM10 for this External service content provider. Complained this to their customer service and they blocked on one number, the next month I got charged again on another number. I guess every month I have to deal with this problem.

Funny thing, the CS gal said, maybe your child use your phone..huhu..pardon me, I don’t even have a child!

one of my colleague faced this macroK thing since 2004 and he just noticed that he’s being charged approximately RM90 per month!! calculate ya’ self the total amount he paid for the macroK ONLY!!!

ive asked him to report this to maxis, and they said that they could only pay RM160 ONLY!!! how ridiculous is dat???

this macrokiosk has been reportedly having bad systems and poor services. many companies use their short codes and there could be hundreds of companies sharing the code above. All you need to do is just inform the telco customer support they will channel to the right person. If you try macrokiosk poor support, you are getting no where. cheers

    A) Agree with ‘earl-ku’, Telco & MCMC do not protect consumer it seems.

    B) You know what Malaysia telco did?
‘Maxis honours repeat offenders in elite Content Providers grouping’
    http://www.jeffooi.com/2007/06/sms_scam_15_the_nik...

In short, it means Maxis honoured those companies which others used to report of sms scamming.

    C) So what if you want to protect yourself?
C1) You call up telco to disable External Content Provider service, but
    C1.1) they say cannot
C1.2) they say only can block each number you provide

    D) So do what you do?
    D1) Give them list of 9999 numbers – from 30000 to 39999
D2) Though the smart one will tell you, each telco has different number range as below:
D3) Just tell them you want to be on the safe side. Or else they will come up with another crap to scam your money.

    Maxis – 32000 to 32999, 37000 to 37999
    TM Touch – 33000 to 33999
    Celcom – 39000 to 39999
    Digi – 36000 to 36999
